Primary Election Today

Special Report - May 6, 2008
Voters from all over North Carolina will head to the polls today to exercise their civic responsibility by voting in the Primary Election. In the Primary Election, voters have the opportunity to vote for candidates for public office who are facing primary opposition in order to determine which candidates run in the November 4 General Election. In North Carolina, voters will have the chance to vote for such offices as Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Council of State, State Legislature, U.S. Congress and judicial seats.

For those voters who have not yet voted or decided on which candidates to vote for, the North Carolina Family Policy Council has produced the online 2008 Primary Voter Guide. The nonpartisan and impartial guide was produced by sending questionnaires by certified mail to 223 candidates for public offices in districts/races with Primary Election opposition. Over 55 percent of the candidates responded. The State Board of Elections offers sample ballots for each voting district so that voters can be prepared at the polls. To access the sample ballot, click here and follow the directions on the site.
