California Court to Reconsider Homeschool Ruling

Special Report - March 31, 2008

The 2nd District Court of Appeals for the State of California has agreed to reconsider its earlier ruling requiring state-recognized teaching credentials for homeschoolers. The request for reconsideration came from Alliance Defense Fund attorneys in response to the earlier ruling. San Jose's Mercury News reported that the court's decision to reconsider "essentially [voids] the 3–0 decision until it rules again."

Michael Farris of the Home School Legal Defense Association commented, "This is a great first step." Farris also said, "We are very glad that this case will be reheard and that this opinion has been vacated, but there is no guarantee as to what the ultimate outcome will be."
