Students to Unite in Prayer "At the Pole"
Special Report - September 19, 2007
On Wednesday, September 26, 2007, millions of students across the United States, including many in North Carolina, will get up early to gather around their school flag poles with their peers to pray for their their families, their friends and their nation. It is all part of "See You at the Pole," a student-led, student initiated prayer gathering that is held before school begins (typically at 7:00 AM) at elementary schools, middle schools, high schools and college and university campuses nationwide. "See You at the Pole" began in Texas in 1990 and is observed annually on the fourth Wednesday of September. In addition to the millions of students in the U.S. who participate each year, students in over 20 countries attend "See You at the Pole" events as well.
The theme for 2007 is "Gather. Unite. Pray. Come Together" and is centered around John 17:20-23, which addresses the importance of oneness in Christ. “Every year, we have seen this day serve as a springboard for unity among teenagers on their campuses," said Paul Fleischmann, president of the National Network of Youth Ministries, the group that coordinates the event. "See You at the Pole” unites students in prayer at the beginning of the semester. Young people have taken unprecedented leadership through this to have a positive impact at their schools.”
Last year, over two million students in 50 states participated in "See You at the Pole," according to the National Network of Youth Ministries. For more information about "See You at the Pole 2007," including promotional and planning materials and legal advice, visit the web site at www.syatp.com.
